Description

La Biblioteca svelata: il bestiario fantastico presents a selection of illuminated manuscripts from the thirteenth to sixteenth centuries in Michelozzo’s library at Museo di San Marco. This focused exhibition runs from 11 April to 31 October 2026 at Piazza San Marco 3, Florence.

The display examines real animals, hybrid creatures and fantastic beings used to decorate manuscripts. Dragons, for example, appear both in stories involving saints and as imaginative ornamental elements. The visit connects the history of books and images with medieval and Renaissance culture inside the former San Marco convent.

Published opening hours are Tuesday–Sunday, 08:30–13:50, with last admission at 12:45. The museum closes on Mondays and the fifth Sunday of each month. The April–October date range is the exhibition season, subject to these closures; it does not indicate overnight opening.

The exhibition is included in museum admission. The published full rate is €11, with a €2 reduced rate for EU citizens in the 18–25 age range stated by the source and free admission for under-18s, alongside other state-museum eligibility rules. Check eligibility and supporting documents through the official channel. The ticket service distinguishes individual visitors in parties of up to five from organised and school groups.

On 14 September, CoopCulture reported a temporary lift failure preventing visitors with mobility difficulties from reaching the upper floor. Confirm the current situation and access to the library before planning your visit. Ticket assistance is available at +39 055 0354135, including from mobile phones and abroad, daily 08:00–19:00.
